Quality control separates a 5-star tumbler from one that generates returns. The difference between a $3 and $5 tumbler is rarely visible — it is in vacuum seal integrity, lid gasket precision, coating adhesion, and food safety compliance that only rigorous testing reveals.
6 Production Quality Gates
| Gate | Stage | What's Checked | Reject Rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| G1 | Raw material | Steel grade (304/316), thickness, surface | 0.2% |
| G2 | After forming | Dimensions, weld seam, concentricity | 0.5% |
| G3 | After vacuum seal | Vacuum decay test (100% of units) | 1.0% |
| G4 | After coating | Color match, thickness, adhesion | 0.8% |
| G5 | After printing | Alignment, color accuracy, durability | 0.5% |
| G6 | Final assembly | Lid fit, leak test, visual, packaging | 0.3% |
Total cumulative reject rate: ~3.3%. Every rejected unit is scrapped — no B-grade rework.
Key Tests Explained
Vacuum Integrity Test (G3) — 100% Inspection
Every single tumbler passes through vacuum decay testing. A sensor measures internal vacuum — properly sealed tumblers hold 10^-3 to 10^-4 Pa. Any measurable decay indicates a micro-leak and the unit is automatically rejected. A failed vacuum = no insulation = a single-wall cup that generates returns.
Temperature Retention Test — Batch Sampling
Random samples from each batch: 95°C water, measured at 6 and 12 hours. Passing: above 60°C at 6 hours, above 45°C at 12 hours. Cold test: 4°C ice water must stay above-freezing for 24 hours. Failed batches are quarantined.
Coating Adhesion — ASTM D3359
Cross-hatch grid cut into the coating, tape applied and pulled off sharply. Passing: 5B (no removal) or 4B (less than 5% at intersections). Below 4B triggers a full line stop.
Lid Seal Test (G6)
Leak-proof lids: filled, sealed, inverted on white blotting paper for 60 seconds — any moisture = fail. Splash-resistant lids: tilted 45° for 30 seconds — no continuous drip permitted.
Food Safety — SGS/TUV Certification
Every new product and material batch tested for heavy metal migration (lead, cadmium), BPA/BPS, and extractable substances per FDA 21 CFR 175.300 (US), EU 1935/2004 (Europe), and GB 4806 (China). Reports provided to all wholesale customers.
What to Ask Any Factory About QC
- Do you test 100% of units for vacuum integrity? (Must be yes)
- What is your batch reject rate? (Good: under 3%)
- Can you provide product-specific SGS/FDA test reports? (Not just generic factory certificate)
- Do you accept third-party pre-shipment inspection? (Hesitation = red flag)
- What is your warranty policy for post-delivery defects?
We invite buyers to visit our factory or join a virtual tour via video call. Seeing the QC process firsthand builds confidence in your supply chain.
Request QC documentation and certifications — we provide SGS food contact reports, ISO 9001 certificate, and product-specific test data with every quote.
